Think a Printer’s Not Green Enough for You? Who says where you work shouldn’t be green, even if it’s a printer? And when paper is your traditional substrate, sustainable & green is far easier than you think!
Today’s printers are green(er) than you would imagine. They have the ability to reuse, recycle and reduce. According to the SGP (Sustainable Green Printing Partnership), “print plays a vital role in the graphic communications industry and sustainable business practices ensure continued viability and growth.” Realistically, raw materials for trees are a renewable resource. And, from Print Grows Trees, they say that the US has 20% more trees than it did on the first Earth Day (AF&PA) which took place in the spring of 1970.
Given these facts, it still goes beyond trees and forests when it comes to what a printer does to recycle. To give you an idea of what kind of an effort needs to be made by commercial printers, here are the sustainability statistics for HKM, specifically, what was recycled this year alone, January through June 2014:
832,320 pounds recycled which translates to the following:
- Saved 7,075 trees
- Saved 2,913,120 Gallons of Water
- Saved 1,747,872 Kilowatt hours
Many companies today have to be concerned about the environmental process, and they know how important it is for being a good corporate citizen. HKM is certified for chain of custody and works hard every day to be responsible when it comes to the environment. We are proud to use Eco-friendly solvents and inks in our production facilities. HKM uses these explicitly because they emit only very low traces of volatile organic compounds also known as VOCs. So, if you think you’re printer doesn’t do enough to keep it green, consider HKM and evaluate all the ways we try to recycle, reuse and reduce.
